What are you grateful for this year?
Christmas is almost here…
Christmas is just a few sleeps away and that means our hearts and minds are busier than ever! We are daydreaming about the happy reactions of our friends and family when they receive their presents that we so carefully selected, bought or made; we are running last-minute errands; signing heaps of holiday cards for all the meaningful connections in our lives… the list goes on!
For us here at GrafikaVision, It is really a time of connection, excitement, and gratitude. With high vibes and happy emotions buzzing in the air, we can’t help but catch the holiday spirit and, with our own twist on it, pass it on to you – our clients and partners, our community that we are so grateful for.
At GrafikaVision, we have so much to be grateful for! And we think you do too. So before we share with you our list, we want to take a moment to talk about why gratitude is so incredible for us and our lives.
Holiday season is a special time, nudging us to pause and reflect on the passing year. We re-play events, our wins and losses, our happy and fun memories, and all the people that were with us for the ride. It is the perfect time to be grateful for our lives and our loved ones. And so, it is the perfect time to talk about gratitude, and why and how it is so good for us.
Gratitude can affect your life satisfaction
For example, did you know that gratitude can affect your life satisfaction and overall well-being? In a scientific experiment, the group who kept gratitude journals exercised more regularly, reported fewer physical symptoms, felt better about their lives as a whole and was generally more optimistic (“5 Scientific Facts That Prove Gratitude is Good for You”).
Another reason to practice gratitude is to improve your relationships, both at work and at home. When you express gratitude to a colleague, they will naturally feel more appreciated, connected and committed to working with you, which will benefit both of you and make working together joyful and fruitful.
As for our romantic relationships, expressing gratitude to a partner or significant other will never get old. We do so much for each other in these relationships that there will always be room for gratitude and its benefits.
Knowing how much benefit gratitude can bring into your life, let’s now talk about creating this powerful habit. There are many ways you can approach gratitude in your life. Here are a few that we picked and suggest that you try for yourself during this holiday season…
When we write, we slow down our thoughts and create neural pathways in our brains that strengthen our memory of those thoughts. Journaling about what you are grateful for will not only relax and inspire you, it will create a strong and positive memory in connection to appreciating those things about yourself or your life.
This one is our favorite especially when it comes to this time of year! Just like kids get excited about opening their presents from under the tree, we get excited at the end of the year when we get to open our gratitude jar and read out all the little bits of paper containing gratitude moments we’ve collected over the year. On each piece, a short note is written about a moment during the year that something wonderful happened that we are grateful for. If you don’t have a jar with gratitude notes this year, make sure to start one for 2017 and, come next Christmas season, you will be delighted and filled with positive emotions of anticipation and appreciation.
Acknowledging others is a great boost for everyone present. And so, raise a toast to your friend, family member or special someone at a dinner table together with friends and share with the crowd why that person is so exceptional, and how grateful you are for who they are and for what they’ve done. It sure feels good to make someone smile, and it will feel even better when someday down the road, having started this tradition, it will be you who will be surprised with a public acknowledgment by someone!
